Who We Are
The Queer Equity and Affirmative Counseling Division (QEACD) of the National Association of Black Counselors is a professional home for Black counselors, therapists, and mental health professionals who identify as LGBTQIA+, as well as those who are dedicated to the wellbeing of the Black LGBTQIA+ community.
We recognize that the lived experiences of Black queer and trans individuals are shaped by the intersection of race, sexuality, gender identity, spirituality, and culture. Our division works to center those experiences by advancing inclusive, affirming, and culturally re
sponsive counseling practices that honor the fullness of Black LGBTQIA+ identities.
We believe that the health and liberation of Black LGBTQIA+ people including clients, counselors, and communities are essential to collective wellness and justice.
Mission
To promote equity, affirmation, and culturally grounded care for Black LGBTQIA+ individuals—clients and counselors alike—through education, advocacy, and community support for professionals within this population.
Vision
A world where Black LGBTQIA+ counselors and clients experience holistic, affirming, and evidence-based mental health care that embraces identity, celebrates resilience, and supports the right to live freely and authentically.
